There was originally a clay sculpture of Putuo in the South China Sea in the hall. There were Arhat Buddha statues on the mountain, and the sea water was painted at the foot of the mountain to symbolize the Putuo wonderland in the Buddhist world, so it was called "Arhat Mountain" and "Island".

Haopujian is located at the north end of Xiaotu Hill on the east bank of Beihai Park. It is a garden within a garden in Beihai Park. "Hao" and "Pu" are both ancient Chinese water names. According to "Zhuangzi·Autumn Water", Zhuangzi and Hui Shi were swimming on the Haoliang. Zhuangzi said, "The fish are out. The fish are so happy." Hui Shi asked, "You are not a fish, how do you know the joy of fish?" Zhuangzi retorted, "You are not me, how do you know that I don't know the joy of fish?" Based on this, a small garden was built with a small bridge close to the water surface for the emperor and empress to watch fish and fish. Emperor Qianlong once hosted ministers in this garden.
