Chapter 45: The Girl Confesses Her Troubles

Chapter 45: The Girl Confesses Her Troubles

Gwen stood on top of a tall building in Brooklyn, looking at the cars and people passing by below.

It was drizzling and cars were whizzing past.

Through the misty rain, she saw a row of electrical appliance stores located not far away.

The sight then looked into the distance, the uniform high-rise buildings were like a dim fence, outlining the jagged skyline.

She had a sense of insecurity, as if she was walking on thin ice, as if she might break through the ground and fall into the abyss at any time.

In the drizzle, she held the phone in front of her, waiting for Peter's reply.

Peter quickly texted her back: "We all have a monster inside us, Gwen, you are not alone."

Gwen looked at the text from Peter and wiped the raindrops off her phone screen.

"Are you saying that there is a monster of death living in your heart as well?"

She suddenly thought of what Peter had said to her before: "Death is not alone."

Soon Peter replied to her: "Yes, there is a big theater of death in my heart. The curtain on the stage is always open. The drama of death is performed here all the time, and the actors are white skeletons."

Gwen thought Peter was talking about his cancer, so she felt sad when she saw this text.

"I'm sorry, Peter, I shouldn't have brought that up."

"It's ok."

Gwen held the phone in silence, she didn't know how to tell Peter about herself.

Tell him he was bitten by a spider and might turn into a monster like Frank?
Not to mention whether Peter would believe me, what would be the point even if I told him?

Peter is currently suffering from cancer and is still in the treatment stage.

This would only make him more worried and might even cause more harm to his body.

Gwen hesitated for a moment, then typed a reply to Peter: "I'm sorry I took a leave of absence this morning. Sometimes, I can be so willful that I can't be understood."

"You have your reasons, Gwen, I know."

"Thank you, Peter. Thank you for listening to me pour out my troubles. Maybe I will find a suitable opportunity to tell you about my affairs. I have been thinking a lot about the future recently."

Gwen put her phone down and put her hands in her pockets, feeling the cold raindrops.

She hadn't thought about the future in a long time.

My original life was just drifting on a lazy river.

But the future was like a lingering little fly, buzzing in her ears all the time, leaving her no peace.

She had heard of an experiment in which laboratory mice and monkeys were given the illusion of choice and generally survived healthily.

Even though they only have two choices: mild electric shock and severe electric shock.

But at least they can feel the difference in results, so they are filled with joy and live a more fulfilling life.

However, if these mice and monkeys are not given any choice and are simply subjected to continuous electric shocks, they will become increasingly anxious.

They may chew through the fur on their own hands and feet and eventually die from cancer or heart disease.

After a while, Gwen stretched out her hands and focused her eyes on them.

I don’t know how long it will take before I bite the fur off my hands.

Taking a deep breath and looking at the rooftops on the other side farther away from the clock tower, Gwen put on her white hood.

She wanted to try the feeling of jumping again.

When I was being chased by the Hand, I tried to jump over here.

If Peter hadn't pulled me back, I would have fallen and died.

I recalled the feeling when I jumped up and caught Spider-Man falling from the sky.

"I can do it. That's how I felt at that time."

Gwen muttered as he ran forward faster.

With a "bang", Gwen's feet left the edge of the roof and jumped forward suddenly.

"Wow!" Both feet landed safely on the ground.

Gwen stepped onto the edge of the roof, but before she could even breathe a sigh of relief, her foot suddenly slipped.

The roof was extremely slippery due to the rain. Gwen stumbled when she stepped on it, lost her balance and fell backwards.

She lost her balance and stretched out her hand to grab something, but in the end she just grabbed a wisp of air.

Falling rapidly from the high speed, Gwen suddenly became panic-stricken.

Trying hard to force herself to calm down, she suddenly thought of what she saw when Spider-Man shot out spider silk.

With his mind racing, Gwen tried to imitate the other person's gesture and shot forward with his right hand.

"Whoosh!"

A mass of white sticky substance splashed onto the wall.

And Gwen was pulled against the wall by this force.

She grasped the wall with her hands and found that she was able to support her body.

Shocked, she climbed up the wall and soon reached the roof.

Standing on the roof, Gwen took off her hood and looked at her hands with surprise.

Something similar to Spider-Man's silk was just shot out!

Can I be like Spider-Man?!
At New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Peter stood in the drizzle and put away his phone.

He told Gwen that he was experiencing a death drama in his mind.

In addition to the shadow of death lurking in his chest, it was also because in his previous life, when he was a mercenary for Weyland Company, he had witnessed a lot of death and killing.

The piles of white bones are just the most common scene.

Memories of the past flashed through his mind and he walked towards the hospital.

Dr. Ryan was waiting for him in the office because they had contacted him in advance.

"Long time no see, Mr. Parker."

Dr. Ryan looked well and stood up to greet him.

"It shouldn't take too long."

Peter sat across from him, "Does Dr. Ryan hope every time I come here it will be the last time?"

Facing Peter's joking tone, Dr. Ryan laughed awkwardly, "How could that be? I am a very professional doctor, how could I want such a thing to happen."

"Well, your professionalism may be good, but I heard that you may not have much work ethic."

Peter said casually: "But we can talk about professional ethics later. Now it's business that matters most."

"of course."

Dr. Ryan stood up and began to examine Peter.

After half an hour.

Peter asked Dr. Ryan, who was looking at the CT images, "How is it?"

"you"

Ryan took a deep breath and asked Peter hesitantly, "Have there been any changes in your body recently?"

"Variety?"

"Well, some changes in external signs."

Peter nodded. "The strength has increased significantly."

Dr. Ryan showed Peter the CT images. "It looks like it has undergone some kind of mutation. The morphology of its body surface has changed."

The embryo image in front of me presents a completely different appearance from before.
