Chapter 170: The Light of Gravel in the Eyes of the Gods
This battle came suddenly, yet was expected by everyone.
Just like the fate of these Darkin, it was already predetermined.
Charikar was unable to suppress the other Darkin, their greed was evident, and Xu Yuyan, who had once dealt Tayanali a nearly fatal blow with an axe, came out to rob them directly.
Everyone knew Xu Yuyan's strength, and they all thought that Tayanali would die at Xu Yuyan's hands, but they did not expect that Tayanali had learned magic that none of them had ever seen before.
And he learned this spell from Maisha!
Maisha stood behind Tayanali, holding in her hand the Charikar, which was even bigger than her body, and she was covered with an increasingly mysterious veil.
……
This bloody battle is just the tip of the iceberg of the century-long Darkin War.
But it further reflects the cruelty of this long and tiring war.
This is what happened to the Ascendants, one by one they were killed by their former compatriots.
It was a fierce and fatal blow, but Xu Yuyan still stood there, his ascended body not yet ready to accept his own death.
Tayanali jumped aside, and the dead god warriors fell to their knees, with a sound like a mountain collapsing. Xu Yuyan rolled to the side, staring at his own death god with his remaining eye, full of confusion. His sharp mouth was still moving, but he didn't say anything.
As Tayanali labored to breathe, his lungs soaked with blood, he heard Maisha quietly clapping in celebration, like a proud teacher delighting in a student's reckless success.
The sound made him sick.
Although everything went as planned, he still didn't believe that he had to kill at least one of his compatriots. He didn't feel the sweetness of this victory. Although he and Xu Yuyan had never been close, they had fought side by side for the glory of Shurima. At that time, the sun blessed them and gave them strength.
He knelt beside his fallen opponent, a claw on his head. The blood gleamed with dragon-forged starlight. "I'm so sorry, brother," he whispered.
The followers of Xuyuyan roared in pain. Not in mourning for their fallen god—Xuyuyan, who was hated by the people, could not be mourned—nor because of the desire for revenge. They roared because they themselves were dying. The warbands on both sides of them had already drawn their bloodthirsty white blades.
The god warriors educated their slaves very well.
Without God's protection, humans are nothing more than pests to be hunted and killed, at least that's what God has always taught.
"Stop!" Tayanali yelled. "God's defenders, put down your knives!"
These chapters did not belong to him, but he was of the Sunblood, and the authority in his voice was awe-inspiring, and people stopped in their tracks.
The other god warriors were all stunned when they saw what Tayanali had just done.
Naganeka of Zurita slid forward and leaned over to examine Xuyuyan's cooling body. Pale smoke rose from the surface of his flesh, and celestial energy began to escape from this mortal body.
She took off her hood, revealing her hypnotic eyes embedded in the ash, and black fangs hanging from her scaly lips. She leaned over and pressed her tongue against the wound on Xu Yuyan's back, tasting his death.
"Rhaast will be disappointed," she said in a wet voice like a lizard's tongue. "He vowed to kill Xu Yuyan himself." Her poison-blinded life carriers panicked behind her, their evil goddess speaking, but they didn't know what to do.
The other gods approached cautiously. Ennakai and Syphax looked at Tayanali with new respect. The others, haunted by Suyuen's death, saw that Tayanali had done the impossible, something that even a god-warrior could not do.
Shabeka and Shabek circled the body. Their rudimentary wings fluttered with excitement. The smell of death clung to them like a shroud - the traces of corruption that touched the god-warriors were most evident on the twins. Onyx eyes, eyes that had seen too much, roamed over the body. "Told him he would die today, didn't you, sister?" Shabeka said.
"They never listen, do they?" Shabek replied.
Shabeka chuckled. "No, never listen to the mad crows. What do we know? Nothing but everything!"
"Did you foresee this moment?" asked Gigantus.
"Yes, yes, I knew he would get too close to his horns. I told him that a long time ago, but he just laughed."
"You can't laugh now, can you, bro?"
"Can't laugh, sister."
"What else did you see?" asked Syphax.
The Prophet Twins huddled together, whispering, throwing the small pieces of bone back and forth. Their minds were shattered in the battle to seal the Earth Hernia of Icathia. Anyone, even a god, would have their mind shattered if they made eye contact with the giant spirit under the abyss.
Shabek frowned. "The future is too complicated to know..."
“There are so many different possibilities, and it’s hard to see any one of them clearly right now,” Shabaka added. “It’s impossible to be sure.”
"We could all die today. Or some of us," Shabek said. "Or none of us could die. Maybe Gigantus could kill Ta'anari now, and we could all live."
"Survive and continue to kill each other in the future!" Shabaka suddenly laughed.
"She wants us dead. She's the pebble that causes the avalanche."
"Speak normally!" Gigantus ordered. "Who wants to do what? Pebbles? Avalanche? Who are you talking about?"
"She!" Shabeka screamed, pointing to the tiny figure of Maisha behind Tayanali. "She is the light of sand in the eyes of the gods."
Maisha held Charikar to her chest like a child holding tightly to the knife given by his father.
Sebotaru cursed and helped Tayanali up. The "Giant Wolf" was tall and thin, but as powerful as a monster, with four strong arms clenched into clawed fists. "What do they mean?" he growled. "Who is this person?"
Tayanali swallowed a scream of pain, his spine twisted and buckled. "She's just a human being, nothing special," he said.
"You always look so pitiful when you lie," said Serbotaru, baring his long, curved teeth. "Tell the truth, brother, or I'll rip your throat out faster than you can blink."
“She helped me find Charikar,” Tayanali said.
Sebotaru shook his head. "The Grand Maester buried Charikar with Setaka. He hid her body after the fall of Ekathia. How could a mere mortal know where it is?"
“She didn’t know it, but she led me to Nasus.”
