Chapter 142: No Darkness, No Dawn
This battle is completely beyond the reach of mortals, so it is no wonder that Nasus had to let Sivir and Taliyah leave first.
Because this is a battle between ascenders.
Both Nasus and Xerath used the methods of the Ascended Ones. Mortals could not interfere in their battles, and standing by would only cause them to be affected.
But the problem is, Nasus is no match for Xerath!
This made the audience extremely anxious!
——"Fuck! Why is this Xerath so powerful?!"
——"Look at what he has become? He has turned into a ball of arcane energy. How can he not be powerful?"
——"Why is there such a big gap between Nasus and him?"
——"According to Nasus, he was able to subdue Xerath together with his brother Renekton!"
——"Where are the Azir people? Why don't they come out to rescue us?"
This also explains why Nasus cannot defeat Xerath alone, he needs the help of Renekton.
And now, after so many long years, Nasus's power has weakened, but Xerath's power is growing day by day!
There is no doubt that based on Xerath's current performance alone, its power can be ranked at the top of this world.
I'm afraid that the only one in the whole of Shurima who has a hope of defeating Xerath is the Shurima Emperor who also returned from the depths of the desert!
“But the problem arises again!”
Jiang Wen pointed at the image on the screen and said,
Xerath kept muttering that all Renekton had in mind now was revenge on Nasus.
"Nasus should have ascended with his brother Renekton."
This is not an Ascendant problem, but a Nasus problem.
According to Nasus, he and Renekton were unable to kill Xerath, they simply imprisoned him.
"Actually, this combat power setting is quite reasonable."
"But Xerath has the full power of an Ascendant, and even more."
In fact, the audience also noticed this.
"Then it is equivalent to the two of them sharing the power bestowed by the sun disk equally."
This is also a point that confuses everyone. Have the two brothers who once fought side by side become enemies now?
What Nasus always wanted to do was to find his brother, but in the camera, everyone saw the crocodile beast on the other side of the desert, with only bloodthirsty light in its eyes.
In the commentary booth, Jiang Wen and Guo Fan were thinking about another question. Nasus had always been very impressive after his debut, but now he had no power to fight back in front of Xerath. But it cannot be said that his combat power has collapsed.
"It seems there is something else going on between Nasus and Renekton!"
"The relationship between these two brothers seems familiar to me, doesn't it?"
Guo Fan said with a smile.
Seeing Jiang Wen's puzzled look, he reminded him, "Why does it feel like the relationship between this pair of brothers is a bit like that between Wei and Jinx?" As soon as he said this, the audience in front of the screen also said "Oh" as if they suddenly realized something.
If you think about it carefully, they are indeed a bit similar. They have been separated for many years, and the sister and brother both want to find their younger brother or sister.
It’s just that Jinx is already very extreme, almost becoming a madman, but Renekton is even more extreme, he is no longer a human being and has become a beast.
This makes everyone more confused:
"What happened during these thousands of years?"
……
The scene faded to darkness as Nasus was buried by the collapsing temple.
And after darkness, there is light.
A ray of heat. Sunshine?
At first, Nasus was unsure whether this was real or just a trick of his own mind, trying to comfort his dying body.
Is this what the Ascended see after death?
No, this was not death. Daylight swam across his vision, and he felt his skin grow warm. He shifted, slowly stretching his legs and shoulders. His limbs had fully recovered, which meant he had been in darkness for a long time. The body healed quickly, but he had no idea how long he had been unconscious.
No matter how long it was—it was too long.
Xerath is free and more powerful than ever.
Nasus raised his hand and found that the stone above him formed a dome. The ripples at the bottom of the dome felt as smooth and warm as glass. Even in the semi-darkness, he could feel the twists and turns of the lines on it, like half-mixed oil paint on a painter's palette. He hit the place where the light came in again and again, and the rock finally cracked, turning into pieces of hot molten stone that fell down.
Suddenly, the light splashed and he saw that the entire temple was now just a pile of rubble. Nasus bent down and picked up a piece of the shard that had protected his dome, turning it over and finding that the material was so fused that it was no longer recognizable as a single stone.
He stuffed the dagger-shaped fragment into his clothes and walked out of the ruins of the Temple of the Sun. A wailing wind sighed past, with faint whispers of the dead.
Nothing remained of the city, at least the part that its inhabitants had built on top of the original ruins. Nasus saw that the bedrock beneath the ground had risen and closed together, with the same lines as the dome above his head. Every edge rose and fell like waves that had frozen in time.
Beneath the waves emerged some of the denizens of Vekaura, who had escaped the deathfire of Xerath beneath the rocks, first one or two, then in groups of three or five, blinking in the sunlight, still unable to recover from their miraculous survival.
Nasus nodded slightly and said, "Shurima thanks you, Taliyah." Then he turned and walked out of the city.
The rest of Vekaura was a desolate shell of what Nasus remembered. Collapsed walls, broken foundations. Decapitated stone pillars stood like a petrified forest. Nasus was familiar with the scene: it was just yesterday, after his battle with Xerath on the day Shurima fell. He had turned his face away from the world in a fit of guilt, but he would no longer do that.
Xerath noted that Renekton had become a bloodthirsty beast, but Nasus knew his brother better than the witch elf could. Xerath saw only the beast that Renekton had become, but forgot that within him slept a noble warrior. He had selflessly sacrificed his life for his brother. This warrior had willingly sacrificed everything to save his homeland from a traitor. Xerath had forgotten all about these things, but Nasus never would.
If Renekton still lived, there must be a part of him that remembered his former heroism. If Nasus could awaken that part of him, perhaps he could pull Renekton out of his madness. Nasus had always believed that one day he would have to face Renekton. But until today, he had believed that their encounter would end in the death of one of them.
It's different now. He has his own goals. Azir's bloodline is still there, and so is hope.
“I need you, Renekton. I can’t kill Xerath without you.”
Before him, the desert called his name.
Behind him, Huangsha recaptured Vikaola.
