Chapter 16 Duan Jingya

Chapter 16 Duan Jingya

When Zheng Wenjie was chatting with the driver, he was surprised to find that Wanghualou was actually quite famous in Qincheng. It was a top-notch theater and there were foreign chefs who could cook Western food.

At night, Qincheng was brightly lit with street lights and bustling streets. Pedestrians wearing thick cotton clothes were coming and going. The closer you got to Wanghua Tower, the more lively the atmosphere became.

After getting off the rickshaw, Zheng Wenjie was still wearing his police uniform. He stopped a waiter in a white shirt and told him Wu Qi's name, then he led him into Wanghua Tower.

Wanghua Building is obviously a combination of Chinese and Western styles. Through the exquisite screen, the gorgeous chandelier illuminates the entire lobby. There are calligraphy and paintings hanging on the wall, as well as some porcelain decorations, which looks quite elegant.

The hall was much quieter than outside, and people were talking in low voices. The high-pitched and passionate voices coming from the stage were clearly heard by everyone. The seats were arranged carefully, and the seats facing the stage were empty, with no soft chairs.

I followed the waiter up to the second floor, which was a small private room. There was a railing only facing the lobby, so I could clearly see the other guests sitting in the lobby and the scene on the stage.

Zheng Wenjie was the first to arrive. He sat quietly and listened to the opera with great interest. He knew a little about Kunqu Opera. He had seen a movie called "The Great Warrior" before and had even looked up relevant information.

The actor on the stage is obviously a Hua Dan among the female roles. Her singing voice is melodious and graceful, sometimes high-pitched and passionate, sometimes low and gentle.

The Hua Dan actress wore gorgeous costumes and delicate makeup on her face. Every movement and every look was full of charm, which made Zheng Wenjie intoxicated.

It was not until Zheng Wenjie heard a noise coming from outside the private room that he stood up, knowing that the real owner had arrived, and looked towards the door.

"Ajie, you're here so early." Wu Qi walked in wearing a suit and tie.

"The section chief has an appointment, so of course I have to be on time." Zheng Wenjie responded with a smile and turned his gaze to the pretty beauty behind Wu Qi.

Wu Qi waved his hand to let the waiter go out, and pulled the main soft chair that Zheng Wenjie had given up with both hands, motioned for the woman to take a seat and introduced: "This is Miss Duan, General Qin's wife. Miss Duan is also the guest today."

Zheng Wenjie smiled and thanked Miss Duan, and sat opposite Wu Qi. Looking at the pretty woman in the dark green satin cheongsam, Zheng Wenjie felt a little strange. The woman looked only in her twenties, probably about the same age as General Qin's son who was in college.

Duan Jingya smiled and nodded: "After all, I have to trouble you to help me. I feel ashamed to just invite you to listen to the play."

"Miss Duan, you are too polite. I am just helping the section chief." Zheng Wenjie replied politely. Then he noticed that Duan Hongmei looked at Wu Qi tenderly.

Two days ago, Wu Qi had explained his plan to Duan Jingya. He planned to send a policeman in the name of Duan Jingya to protect Mr. Qin. Although this would not have any substantial effect, it at least showed Duan Jingya's concern and attention to the eldest son of the Qin family.

Wu Qi waved his hand and said, "Ajie, I really have to trouble you with this matter. Young Master Qin will have to rely on you to protect him during the four or five days of driving."

"This is what we should do." Zheng Wenjie nodded.

Duan Jingya also understood the intention, so she was very enthusiastic towards Zheng Wenjie. She asked the waiter to serve the food and wine, and personally poured a glass of wine for Zheng Wenjie.

"Thank you for your help along the way," Duan Jingya said, holding up the wine glass. "Come, I'll toast you." Then she drank it all in one gulp.

Zheng Wenjie hesitated for a moment while holding the warm wine glass, trying to find an excuse not to drink the wine: "Miss Duan, it's getting late, this wine..."

"It's okay," Wu Qi interrupted, "Miss Duan's driver is waiting downstairs. Ajie, since Miss Duan has already offered you a glass of wine, what are you waiting for?"

Zheng Wenjie cursed in his heart, but still suppressed his nausea and drank the wine in one gulp.

He felt his stomach cramping like a churning sea. He resisted the urge to vomit and apologized to the two of them, "Section Chief, Miss Duan, this is my first time drinking, I'm a little unaccustomed to it." "It's okay," Duan Jingya blinked her bright eyes and smiled to comfort him, "If you don't know how to drink, then don't drink. Eat some food to calm down, and then watch the show. Don't drink anymore."

Wu Qi felt a little restless, thinking about solving this big problem tonight. He was already a little nervous. If Duan Jingya knew what he was going to do, it would definitely be a fight to the death.

Hearing Duan Jingya's words, he could only agree: "Yes, yes, yes! Ajie, just listen to Miss Duan! Eat more vegetables."

After saying this, Wu Qi also deliberately observed Zheng Wenjie's expression. Seeing that Zheng Wenjie really looked uncomfortable and didn't seem to be drinking, he was relieved.

After saying thank you twice, Zheng Wenjie lowered his head on the table and spit out the wine he had just drunk.

He hasn't eaten any food or drunk any alcohol since he turned into a zombie.

This time, facing Duan Jingya's toast, he couldn't refuse it, but he also wanted to try what effect drinking would have on himself.

He swore in his heart that he would never touch any food or drink again. This attempt made him extremely painful, and his entire stomach was cramping.

After he recovered, Zheng Wenjie raised his head and looked at the two of them. Wu Qi and Duan Jingya were both listening to the show. They knew that Zheng Wenjie was not used to drinking and made a fool of himself because it was his first time, so they didn't look at him.

Duan Jingya turned her gaze towards Zheng Wenjie only after she felt him raise his head. There was a hint of concern in her eyes, and Zheng Wenjie gave her an apologetic smile, then he also turned his gaze towards the stage.

Wu Qi shook his head for a while and drank a few glasses of warm wine with Duan Jingya. Looking at Duan Jingya whose face was slightly flushed, Wu Qi sighed in his heart, what a pity for such a beauty.

Seeing that the time was almost up and having drunk half a pot of warm wine, Wu Qi stood up and left the private room. He asked the waiter for a pot of tea, and returned to the door of the private room. Seeing that there was no one around, he took out a paper bag and poured the white medicine powder into the tea, shaking it gently before opening the door and entering the private room.

"It's getting late, Miss Duan, Ajie, let's have a few cups of tea to sober up, and then we'll go back." Wu Qi said with a smile, and he turned over the teacups on the table and filled them for the two of them, while he continued to fill his own glass of wine.

Zheng Wenjie glanced at Wu Qi and said nothing. He had just heard some noise at the door and focused his attention. He clearly sensed that there was someone standing at the door. Why was Wu Qi standing at the door for so long with a pot of tea?

Duan Jingya felt Wu Qi's concern, her pretty face slightly flushed as she smiled gently, took the teacup handed to her by Wu Qi, and took a few sips.

Zheng Wenjie smiled, touched the teacup, and looked at the stage calmly.

Wu Qi looked at his watch, then saw that Zheng Wenjie had no intention of drinking tea, so he raised his glass and said, "Ajie, today is the first time we meet. If you can't drink alcohol, you can drink tea instead. Let's drink together. Miss Duan, come join us."

Duan Jingya, whose face was getting redder and redder, smiled and nodded, raising her teacup. Zheng Wenjie also smiled and raised his teacup: "Thank you, Chief. I haven't recovered from the glass of wine just now. I should be the one to toast you. Please." Wu Qi smiled and waved his hand.

While the two were drinking, Zheng Wenjie pretended to pour tea into the policeman's sleeve.

Seeing that both of their teacups were empty, Wu Qi nodded in satisfaction, then looked at his watch and said, "Miss Duan, Ajie, it's almost ten o'clock, let's go back."

Duan Jingya swayed slightly and tried to stand up. Wu Qi hurriedly supported her. He wanted to help Duan Jingya downstairs, but then he looked at Zheng Wenjie and said, "Ajie, help Miss Duan. I'm going to the bathroom. You guys get in the car first. The white car downstairs belongs to Miss Duan. You can take us both home later."

Zheng Wenjie nodded to show that he understood, and took Duan Jingya from Wu Qi, "Thank you, Ajie, I seem to be drunk tonight, and I feel very dizzy." Duan Jingya shook her head and left the restaurant with the help of Zheng Wenjie.
